At a glance

Superconductors don’t exhibit electrical resistance, when cooled below their critical temperature.

In classical superconductors (e.g. metals like lead, niobium etc.) this effect occurs close to absolute zero (-273°C) temperature. Ceramic high temperature superconductors (HTS) exhibit this transition at relatively high temperature (-180°C), which is readily accessible with liquid nitrogen cooling.

In the superconducting state extremely high current (millions of amps/cm2) can flow virtually without losses.

Here, you may learn more about superconductivity and its applications.

Superconductor technology - creating the future

Superconductivity is going to revolutionize tomorrow’s power- and electrical engineering. Superconductors transport electricity virtually without losses and the extremely high power density allows very compact design. In many applications reduction of weight and size are unique selling points.

Superconductor technology is efficiency technology.

It saves energy, CO2 – emissions, and material resources.

Like renewable energy generation, superconductor technology constitutes an important clean technology of the 21st century, because it minimizes losses in distribution and conversion of electrical energy.

2nd generation HTS tape
the big enabler in power engineering

To tap the potential in power engineering, the ceramic superconductors are required in flexible form at low price. The optimum choice is the HTS coated conductor (or 2G wire), where the superconductor is a thin HTS coating on a flexible metal tape.

Superconductors are our business

By intensive development and patented technologies THEVA has laid the foundations for a cost-efficient production of high quality coated conductors.

At present, we are pursueing the upscaling to industrial production level. In the focus of this development are the design of fully-automatic production equipment and the implementation of a stringent, integrated quality management, similar to semiconductor chip fabrication.
