The principle

Superconductors try to expell magnetic fields from their interior.

The TAPESTAR utilizes this property. The superconducting tape is transferred through a magnetic field and Hall sensors across the tape width are measuring the field penetration profile.

This allows calculation of local screening currents and accurate detection of faults. The spatial resolution is better than a millimeter at a tape speed of up to 200 m/h.

Coated conductor quality assessment

The TAPESTARTM is a fast quality inspection tool for superconducting tape. Based on a non–contact mapping technique the instrument produces scans of the critical current along the tape with millimeter resolution and allows reliable detection of local faults and non-uniformities in the superconducting coating.

The evaluation technique is applicable for all types of superconducting tape (1G or 2G) and works independently from their magnetic properties, even for thick laminated or insulated tapes, where the superconductor is buried and not directly accessible.

Many labs and tape producers rely on this technique and the TAPESTARTM  has become a standard inspection tool.

TAPESTARTM - versions

The TAPESTARTM comes in two versions: for lab use as a table top instrument or as a stand-alone cabinet for quality control in a production environment.

The tape drive can be customized for various tape widths.
