The National Magnetic Lab at Florida State University is one of the leading institutes in magnet technology. Their latest achievement is the construction of a magnet reaching 45.5 T - 0.5 T more than the former world record. This was possible through the use of 2nd generation high temperature superconductor wire. Ismaning, June 3rd 2019 – A consortium of five partners, including THEVA, intends to build a high-temperature superconducting (HTS) transmission line in Munich. It will be the longest in the world by far. A declaration of intent has been signed, resulting in a development application to the German Federal Ministry of Economy. THEVA in Ismaning near Munich produces superconductors in series. As part of this project it will expand its product portfolio to include a conductor designed specifically for the cable application. HTS cables for electrical power distribution in cities are projected to be one of the most important and highest-revenue market segments for superconductors. Thousands of megawatt hours of energy are consumed every year in the production of metal semis and products. The associated CO2 emissions also need to be taken into account. With more than 70% efficiency, high energy savings can be achieved by a new “robust and low maintenance magnetic heater (RoWaMag)” to be developed by THEVA together with Bültmann GmbH, Beck Maschinenfabrik GmbH and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology(KIT) / Institute for Technical Physics (ITEP) over the next few years. Ismaning, 7th May 2019–THEVA, a company based in Ismaning near Munich, has designed and delivered superconducting coils for the EcoSwing wind power generator. The turbine in Thyborøn, Denmark, has now reached its target output of 3MW and the project is officially completed –successfully. The turbine delivered power tothe grid for over 600 hours. Dr. Werner Prusseit, Managing Director of THEVA, is pleased: "Superconductors have become an indispensable technologyfor future energy supply. 40 percent lighter with the same performance-this wind turbine is a landmark." From September 22nd to 27th, the International Conference on Magnet Technology (MT 26) will take place in Vancoucer, Canada. As superconductors play a more and more important role in magnet technology, THEVA will present recent developments and interesting applications with HTS. The CEC/ICMC conference will take place from 21st to 25th, July in Hartford, Connecticut. This conference is all about cryogenics and cryo-technologies. The 14th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity (EUCAS) will take place from September 1st to 5th. The superconductor community meets up in Glasgow to discuss current developments and technical innovations.
